I think I just found my Grandmother on FreeBMD, they give me a District, Volume number and Page numbere, is there anywhere I can apply these to get more info, as there's a few people with the same name and I want to make sure I've got the right one before applying for documents, thanks Audrey

There isn't unfortunately. When you apply for the cert you can ask that certain things are checked, if you know the mothers name or fathers name they will check that they match. If they don't match, they only charge £3 instead of £7. Sam

If it is a birth cert (and not London) then apply to the local registrar, giving as much detail as possible. If it's not correct they won't charge you. Send the money first with SAE. Ros

Thanks Ros and Sam, I was hoping there was somewhere else I couldl go to enter this info. It's a little harder for me as I'm in Canada, so can't go to my local GRO or send an SAE> I'll keep trying, again thanks, Audrey

Hi, From Canada you can send a fax or e-mail to the District Registrar and explain what you want (no form filling) and give them your snail address and credit card details.
