I am trying to trace my ancestor who was a smuggler in (probably) West Sussex; the redcoats were apparently unable to catch him. Probably C18th? Could anyone please advise where I might find any records: assizes, redcoats etc.? |

Anna Assizes records are kept at Kew - see their website for details - click on Getting Started in the top menu bar, and then click on the Guides 2nd from bottom of the drop-down menu. Then click A there are several Assizes leaflets. Other records would probably be at the West Sussex Records Office: http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/navigation/category.jsp?categoryID=532&g11n.enc=UTF-8 nell |

Not a Boyett by any chance, sometimes spelt Boit, Boyat or Boyte, in Felpham West Sussex in the 1700's to at least mid 1800's? |
