Not very helpful I'm afraid but the General Hospital moved to Steelhouse Lane opposite the Police station and is now Birmingham Childrens Hospital. The Archives at Birmingham Library located on 7th Floor have some old records for the hospital but like most records they are closed for a certain amount of time but looking at the date you need I don't think this will apply. If you do go to the 7th Floor Archives you will need a CARN ticket or ID to get one. There are also coronors clippings that the staff have cut out of local papers and collated in books that can be viewed and copied on 6th Floor, no ticket required. You can view what the library holds at www (dot) birmingham (dot) gov (dot) uk go to a to z listings and click Birmingham City Archives The library also holds records for the local cemeteries which may also be worth a look. Happy hunting Karen |

Thanks Karen for your detailed help. One of these days I will get to the library.I do have several ancestors from the area. I have been in contact with them today and for £10 will have a half an hour search. All replies have been VERY helpful so thanks once again to everyone. |
