Thanks to Jenny I have managed to find the death cert of Benjamin Brewerton in 1854. The question is, is it the correct chap? He died following an accident at work so the address is General Hospital and the informant is the coroner. His age is 3 yrs out and the occupation does not quite match with census. Does anyone know if there is a way or reading coroners report or the name of a local paper at the time where this might have been recorded. Many thanks Jeanie |

If you could get in touch with the records office for the area, they might be willing to send you a copy of the inquest if it was reported in the newspaper. I did this recently.I only had the persons name and date of death and the records office in question sent me a copy of the report.(It cost me £20 an hour to search though) Anna :-) |

Hi Jeannie, I emailed Birmingham Records Office yesterday to ask if they could search the old local newspapers for me, for any articles on my paternal grandmother's death (she committed suicide in 1944). I included in my email the details shown on the death cert and I had a reply today, quoting a fee of £10.00, the charge includes printouts of any material found. Kate |

The death cert should have the date of the inquest and from that it should be easy to find. I got a newspaper report (3 x A3 pages) from Cirencester Library for £3.50 including postage recently, and I didn't have an exact date, just a week to look through. What's more they didn't even want the money upfront. nell |
