Hallo Christine I've had a rummage around on the internet. Bentley Heath was v. near Wrotham Park which had a private chapel, though I doubt if your ancestor would be permitted to be baptised there! The nearest church appears to be St Giles, in South Mimms. Parish registers would be in Hertford Archives & Local Studies (HALS) who offer help if you can't visit. This is their webpage that has an e-mail address on it for you to contact them: www.hertsdirect.org/libsleisure/heritage1/HALS/halsremote/ Other likely parishes which are in Middlesex would have their records in the London Metropolitan Archives. I am not sure about non-conformist records - I think it depends on which church, but some are kept at Kew. I would contact HALS to start with and ask their advice. nell |

I gave up on this one about a year ago but have decided to try again!! I have William Pearce born 1832 Bentley Heath father Charles, bricklayer. Bentley Heath was in MIddlesex but is now in Herts. It was only a small Hamlet with no church although one was built later. 1 how can I find out where William was baptised ie the nearest church -so I can find his mothers name. 2 Later he was a non conformist so he could have been baptised in a Non conformist church in the area, how can i find out? (he may have become non conformist later because of his wife) 3 I cannot get to Middlesex or Herts record office - which town are they in? 4 Would they have a professional looker upper - does anyone know if it would cost a fortune? What should I do next to break down this brick wall? THANK YOU CHristine |
