I'm not sure I'll be getting back as far as 1152 for a very long time, if ever, but thanks for the info. Finding a possible baptism for her c.1786 was a huge bonus cos I really was thinking it was the end of the line with Betty given that no possibles could be found in Derbyshire. Now I know why! Lou |

Greeting's Lancashire Lou...... Has said it's all one word..... Mountsorrel. From the Charters & Rolls in the British Museum Back in 1152 (if you get back that far ).... Munt Sorel. This place had a strong Norman Castle Who's name maybe transplantation of Mountsoreau near Saumar, or Mount Sorel near Rennies, or it could mean a sorel coloured hill. If you need help then you know where I am..... MIKE. |

Thanks to Gary, my 5xgrandparents have now been located on the 1851 Derbyshire census so I finally have a birthplace for Betty! It states she was born Mountsorrel, Leicestershire and I've located a possible baptism for her on IGI which I'll check out when I get the opportunity. However, I've googled and got some additional info on the place and in some instances, it is spelt Mountsorrel as one word and in others as Mount Sorrell. Anyone in the area know the correct spelling? Thanks Lou |
