I agree with you Brenda, it is fun looking and being perhaps adventurous in your thoughs to obtain the correct people. Some people do not have the resources or the money to do so, what i would call properly, and if i can keep their interest alive by doing what they might consider the donkey work, then i am happy to do so. ~jess~

To be more positive, only those with the commonest names should need help locating ancestors in Ancestry's census indexes. I do not subscribe, I am not hacking, but with a little patience I can usually locate an individual, at which stage I should simply need someone to check an image. So far as possible, we should be showing newbies how to do this for themselves, since half the fun is in the actual process of finding an ancestor.

I agree. I have just been doing some lookups for people on another site. I posted my findings, only to get a reply saying that the person I had found couldn't be the correct one because the right chap had got a daughter named Florence and a son named Fred and was a coal miner not a shopkeeper... Why couldn't they have given this info on the original request?! Sam

I trawl the boards reading as many threads as possible especially those asking for assistance and look-ups, but cannot help thinking that if only all relevant information the requester knows was shared it would save a lot of time. so please when making your request give names, dates, places and where you got previous information
