Thanks Christine. I just looked at 1881 funny there is a Patrick (but a labourer) and a William Mack (right age ) a boarder both in Hulme I wonder if I can find his birth see if I can get his birth cert, perhaps there is a reason for them being in seperate house . Relly clutching at straws now!!!. Thanks everyone will go and have another root about been at this over 12 month will find him!!!!!

HI Christine I did look long and hard at this family inLiverpool (James) but can't find head nor tail of them after 1881 wondered with him being called James ! and aa joiner looked good but can't find anymore on them couldn't this William on 1837 either Germaine I remember somone once saying just put initials in so I did that I have this awful feeling he could have been in Wittigham Assylum in 1901 that is the nearest I have found. My Mum said he once had a breakdown when she was a little girl so who knows. Do they hold records anyway for Assylums etc.? anywhere. Ps pardon my bad typing not too good at trying to fast.!!!

Liverpool was always popular with the Irish because that's where the ferry landed. I have done a quick search for you on Ancestryireland and they have no births for William Mack or Patrick Mack, at any time, in Antrim or Down. That doesn't mean they weren't from there as the databases are not complete.

I did wonder about a middle name as he had a son who died as a baby and my Mum always called him Jimmy turns out he was William James. My Dad always said he was a mystery man turns out he was right I thought when i got the marriage cert it would give me more leads only made it harder!!!. Germaine

My Mum did mention Irish connection as you say perhaps he was Irish always took it he was born in Liverpool perhaps I will have to see if there is anything on LDS in Ireland I was dreading this as there isn't much you can find in Ireland is there? Thing is she said he played near Scotland road as kid so I thought there should be some trace of at least in 1901 Germaine

Hi Germaine I think I would be inclined to look at Ireland with that name in Liverpool. Vivienne

Hi, Can anyone give any advice on where to go now. I have my Grandfather's death and marriage certs. I have searched the census/ 1837/ and canot find anything to do with him. Thought I had a birth turned out wrong. He was William Mack married 1908 age 28 died 1925 age 46. On his marriage cert. it names his father Patrick Mack cabinet maker journey man (deceased) I have searched allover and cannot find either of them. My Mum always insisted he was in Liverpool as a boy (don't know if he was born there but the only one I found on 1837 wasn't him). Someone even looked up in the Trade directory and couldn't find any Mack working in wood. I don't know where to look next any ideas please. Thanks Germaine
