There is the smidgeon of a chance that the place she was born is not the same as the address given when she was baptised. You will get her mother's maiden name, with the possibility that if her mother had been married before, you may also get that previous name. You may also find that the occupation of the father is slightly different. You will also get the name of the informant. This is usually the mother, sometimes the father, but occasionally a more distant relative, with an address. How much extra information you get is just the luck of the draw. But the certificate is worth it for the maiden name alone.

Maiden names are always on birth certs and another source is wedding certs. nell

Jenny, Yes, you need the certificate. It will give you name, age, address, maiden name, father's name. Janice

I want to find out the maiden name of my great gran. I already know where she was born, when (including the address) - and the name and occupation of her father. The only thing I want to find out is her mother's maiden name. Can anyone tell me if the maiden name was included on a birth certificate in 1860 please ? I don't want to send for a birth ceritificate unless it does - as her baptism record already tells me everything else. Will her birth certificate have the one detail I am missing ? Jenny
