HOW DO I TRACE A DIVORCE FROM THE 1920'S

My great grandmother was married twice (I think!) I need to find out if she was ever divorced to enable her to marry again. Is there anyone out there that can help me? |

This is the address you need:- Principal Registry Of The Family Division ADDRESS 1st Avenue House 42-49 High Holborn WC1V 6NP They will do a 10 year search for £20, but no quarantee of finding anything. A lot of people in those days couldn't afford to get divorced, so didn't bother. We have been looking for my father-in-law's divorce from his first wife, and haven't found it yet. Not just a question of money - it was socially scandalous and also quite difficult. You had to prove adultery if you were a man, and a wife had to prove adultery and cruelty, I believe. nell |

Thanks for your replies I might have a go at searching if I ever find a marriage certificate for the second marriage. I haven't found it yet so my family is still a great mystery!!!*** |
