You say you cannot find any trace, where have you looked? Do you have a cert i.e. his birth or marriage or their daughters birth/death, to give a better idea of the true spelling of their surname. I know you've got variations from the censuses, but how should it have been spelt? Regards Sam

Susan If James was born 1879/1880, he could have died at any time after 1901 census. I have relies that died in their 20s and others that lived to be 97! It would mean a long haul through the GRO indexes if he's bot on Freebmd. Can you narrow it down - get his children's marriage certs and see if he is listed as 'deceased' on them for example - though he might be dead and not listed as such, if it does say deceased chances are he was dead by then. nell

hi everyone firstly i have the marriage cert which has james surname as Dunkrit,& also Silvina's birth & death certs (also Dunkrit ) ,on Tees valley indexes they have Dunkitt & on 1901 census they have Dunkert Although the handwriting is quite difficult to read, I have been looking for James birth & Death for about 18 months now without any luck i have tried just about everywhere that i can think of. on the 1901 census his name is transcribed as Dunkert B. West indies - Senkets ( i think St Kits ? ) on james & violets marriage cert James fathers name is simon Grove (another problem ! ) & that is really as far as i can get , i was thinking that maybe James father was in the army or something as i have no indication that he was black so for the moment i have assumed that he was white I just cannot think of anything else to do to try and get the info that i need thanks & best wishes Sue
