This is a question for all you hairdressers of many years in the trade. How are your lungs.? I have been doing a bit of research into " Hairdressers lung" . I have been in the trade 32 years and for the last 12 years had a dry cough. nothing cures it. I do not smoke. But this last 10 days my chest has been aching and i will have to see doc. I have found out hairdressers are prone to ashma and other lung diseases. Has anyone else had health probs related to breathing in hairsprays and other products.

Julie , never a hairdresser , run a cleaning company ... life of grime ??
Most of our cleaning stuff is Bleach based , along with acids .. must admit I do get short of breath after 5 years exposure but I do smoke . Have a friend who was a hairdresser , suddenly reacted, face swelled up horribly and had to give it up after 20 years .

I did a lot of cleaning for other people over the last 20 years, and was diagnosed with asthma a few years back, no one in our family ever had that, altho my Dad died from lung cancer through smoking all his working life.
i am sure chemicals do cause these problems and did once have a problem at a hairdressers when I was sitting next to someone having a perm, had to move cos I kept coughing.
