Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 6 Oct 2008 20:56

I have some of mum's recipes and I was looking at one today and the first ingredient was Trex - I am assuming it is/was some sort of marge/fat - can anyone confirm that for me please and tell me what the 2008 equivalent is?!
Thanks, Maz. XX

... and it makes the most beautiful pastry. Haven't bought it for a while, but the last time I bought it, it was in Waitrose.

Bought some on Friday last at Morrison's Maz - it's a combination I think of lard and marg. and does make the most wonderful shortcrust pastry!!

I'll be using mine tomorrow, together with some apple puree (and possibly mincemeat, cos it's almost Christmas - lol)

If I remember rightly it was a white fat.

I use White Flora half and half with either sunflower margarine or Clover for my pastry and that works very well. I think White Flora is similar.
I did win second prize at the village Harvest supper with my apple pie LOL so not much wrong with my pastry.

I still use Trex. It is a white vegetable fat and it creams fairly easily. It makes pastry and you can fry in it.Good stuff.

Actually, I haven't made pastry for quite a long time, but I think the last time I used half Trex and half something else, can't remember what though. Sometimes I've used Cookeen, too; oh, and Echo.

I think I must have got rid of my Mum's Trex book, can't find it, but do have Be-Ro Home Recipes book ... :-)

Oh, just found a book - Trex Treasury of Taste; inside the front cover is "The new 48 page full colour Trex Treasury of Taste cookery book features traditional regional recipes using Trex Pure Vegetable Fat ..........'.
No date inside, and looks hardly used. Perhaps I should start using it ... :-)
