Just around this time last year I told you about a new charity recipe book to support the National Osteoporosis Society. Since Sharpe Chefs was published almost 1800 copies have been sold and over 4,000 pounds in royalties donated to the NOS.
To coincide with a new episode of "Sharpe", that will be shown in the UK in early November, the Sharpe Chefs have produced another wonderful book "Sharpe Chefs II, on Campaign"; all royalties to benefit the Children with Leukeamia, childhood cancer charity. The charity was chosen by "Sharpe" author, Bernard Cornwell and the new book is endorsed by CWL patron Jonathon Ross.
In this second book we follow Richard Sharpe and the Chosen Men through India and Europe, enjoying many of the different foods each region enjoys. The Chefs tested every recipe themselves and took the pictures of the finished dish that accompany them. As before several of the actors who have appeared in the very popular tv series contributed their own favourite recipes.
The book will be available in stores on November 10, 2008 or you can purchase online from youbooks.co.uk
Thank you for supporting this very worthwhile cause.

youbooks.co.uk Press Release November 2008 Sharpe Chefs II On Campaign
Out now, Sharpe Chefs II: On Campaign is a fantastic sequel to the Sharpe Chefs charity cookery book. All author royalties go to the CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA charity.
The book is packed with delicious recipes, historical facts and trivia as well as information about CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA.
The book includes full colour photographs of the recipes and contributing celebrities. Sharpe Chefs II also has photos of the Sharpe TV series starring Sean Bean including backstage pictures and photos from the upcoming Sharpe’s Peril.
Sharpe Chefs II: On Campaign features a foreword by Sharpe author Bernard Cornwell who is supporting the book. Children with Leukaemia is his chosen cause.
The book also features an endorsement from CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA supporter Jonathan Ross. Jonathan says, “On behalf of CHILDREN With LEUKAEMIA you have my heartfelt thanks for buying this book, the proceeds of which will contribute to the wellbeing of children enduring gruelling treatment and facing an uncertain future. So enjoy the recipes, enjoy the memory of Sean Bean in his leggings, and thanks again for giving your essential support in this struggle.”
This second book follows the campaign trail of Sharpe’s men with tempting recipes and interesting facts at each location they stop at.
The Sharpe Chefs tell us, “We invite you to take a similar tour in this book but instead of military matters of life and death, our main concern will be far more important – food!”
Places and recipes on the campaign trail include Karahi Chicken in India, Pork Rib Roast with Chilli Plums in Portugal and Roast Beef and Asparagus Rolls in Belgium.
Celebrity contributors include Sharpe cast members Daragh O’Malley, Jason Salkey, Lyndon Davies, Hugh Fraser, Julian Kitchener-Fellowes, Michael Mears, Philip Glenister, Philip Whitchurch, Michael Cochrane, Cecile Paoli, Muir Sutherland, Diana Pirez and Richard Rutherford Moore.
There is also historical information about the campaign and what life was like for the soldiers. For example we understand the lure of joining the army for Irish men as Regency period daily rations were ‘more than the average man would get in a fortnight back home in Ireland.’
CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA also make an important contribution to the book, talking about the important work they do in fighting Britain’s biggest childhood cancer. For more information please see http://www.leukaemia.org.

‘Sharpe Chefs’ – the first cookery book for charity created by a group of ladies from all over the globe – has won the UK round in the prestigious GOURMAND WORLD COOKBOOK AWARDS 2008 in the category Best Fund Raising Cookbook. The next stage is to compete against other cookery books for charity from around the world.
The ‘Sharpe Chefs’ book was the result of a throw-away comment by Adele James almost two years ago and snowballed into a project that involved the director, producers and actors of the television series ‘Sharpe’. It also drew the interest of Bernard Cornwell, author of the ‘Sharpe’ books, who has continued to support the Chefs into book two: ‘Sharpe Chefs II – On Campaign’, published in November 2008.
The next stage is exposure at the Gourmand stand in The Cookbook Corner at the London Book Fair next April 20-22, where the book will be exhibited, and following that the awards Gala event, in the middle of 2009.
We are honoured to have been nominated for this award and proud to have reached this far in the process. We thank all those who made the book possible and all those who bought it, without whom it would have never been this successful.

This from the Children with Leukeamia website (www.leukeamia.org/what-you-can-do/fundraising-stories/977)
Sharpe Chefs II : On Campaign Sharpe Chefs II: On Campaign, has just been launched to coincide with the wonderful new Sean Bean TV series. This book is a sequel to the original Sharpe Chefs charity cookery book.
Thank you to Sharpe author, Bernard Cornwell. All author royalties are coming to us - his chosen cause.
The book is packed with delicious recipes, historical facts and trivia and follows the campaign trail of Sharpe’s men.
Sharpe Chefs II: On Campaign includes full colour photographs of the recipes and contributing celebrities, including backstage pictures and photos from the current TV series.
Places and recipes on the campaign trail include Karahi Chicken in India, Pork Rib Roast with Chilli Plums in Portugal and Roast Beef and Asparagus Rolls in Belgium.
Celebrity contributors include Sharpe cast and crew members Daragh O’Malley, Jason Salkey, Lyndon Davies, Hugh Fraser, Julian Kitchener-Fellowes, Michael Mears, Philip Glenister, Philip Whitchurch, Michael Cochrane, Cecile Paoli, Muir Sutherland, Diana Pirez and Richard Rutherford Moore.
You can buy Sharpe Chefs II: On Campaign on line at Youbooks.co.uk (a new window will open) It can also be ordered through Waterstones and W H Smith.
We must thank Adele James, the driving force behind this book. Adele wrote to us saying "We are a group of 26 ladies worldwide, who became friends originally because we all admired the actor Sean Bean and his work."
"We learnt from our first book that it was its uniqueness that made it so popular. It wasn't just a cookery book, but a history book, an information book and an entertaining book. Short paragraphs are written in the style of Sharpe throughout the book, which Bernard Cornwell has graciously looked over and approved."
Thank you Adele and your fellow Sean Bean admirers. We're sure this sequel will be even more popular than your first Sharpe Chefs book.

If any of you are planning to visit the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival this weekend, take some time to call in at Waterstones on Greenwich Church Street. On Sunday between 1-3pm you will have the chance to meet "Sharpe" cast members Daragh O'Malley (Sgt Harper), Jason Salkey (Harris), Diana Perez (Ramona) and Paul Bigley (Dobbs) and some of the Sharpe Chefs themselves as they sign copies of "Sharpe Chefs: On Campaign". The 95th Rifles Re-enactment Society will also be in attendance. Remember, all profits from this book benefit the Children with Leukeamia Charity.
