Red Arrows stay at Norwich airport

REBECCA GOUGH
24 July 2009 07:09

Norwich airport will play host to the Red Arrows throughout July and August as a base of operations for a number of nearby airshows.

The programme has already begun with a display at the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival, where death-defying displays included the infamous diamond nine formation.

The red Arrows landed yesterday morning in time for the day in Lowestoft, and will also appear today.

Emma Thomas, spokesperson for the Red Arrows, said: “We're regular visitors to the Lowestoft Air Festival, and some of our pilots have also flown at RAF Marham so we're very much looking forward to being in that part of the country and hopefully everybody will enjoy the show.”

The display team will also be at the Cromer Carnival on August 19, and the Clacton Airshow on August 27 and 28.

An RAF Squirrel helicopter will also be operating from the airport to transport Red 10, who provides display commentary for spectators to and from the airshow venues.

Ms Thomas added: “We've got three different types of display depending on the cloud cover and there will be lots of beautiful flying.”

I saw the planes come over the field again yesterday lunchtime, the noise woke me up and I was just in time to see them come in and fly very low as they approached the airport, can't see the runways etc but can see how low the planes go to land and when they fly off again, lots of them. Red Arrows flew in the other direction to Lowestoft tho so only saw them once. Looks as if they will be regular visitors through the rest of the summer tho, whoopee!

They are normally stationed in Lincoln near me, and often fly over. Depending on where I have been working they fly over the car as we are going home. It's great. From my house I can sometimes see them doing a practise or leaving/ returning to their base.

I love to see the Red Arrows! it's Sunderland International Air show this weekend so usually see spectacular displays coming over the garden. The skies here at the moment, are blue with no clouds in sight,so looks like everyone there should have a good time.....fingers crossed as usual.

Have seen quite a bit of the lads this week, they flew over today just before a big thunderstorm, from Clacton I suppose and then went off again to Devon.

Hi Marilyn, yes, early next week for Plymouth.

Ben, you would have done, they were at Clacton on Thursday and are using Norwich as their base at the mo, so come back to us each time there is a display. I get a little flutter in my stomach when I hear them!

Saw them after the noise woke me yesterday, they circled the field at the end of the garden and did some manoevres before going down to land. Spectacular!
