Contrary Mary

Contrary Mary Report 14 Aug 2009 12:27

A report into his death in the local paper today:

Death Linked to Drug Error

A hospital blunder contributed to a grandfather's death when he was given the wrong drug - twice.

Former Royal Navy officer Clive Buckle, 72, was given a form of adrenaline that stimulated the heart when he should have been given a sedative to help him sleep.

The blunder came as he was recovering from an operation.

How very sad, he was such a lovely man. RIP Clive.

Oh, I never knew it was an accident, i think I thought he had a heart attack, how sad he was such a lovely person. I hope somebody paid for the mistake but I doubt it. Is that in the Evening News Mary?

Hello Ann

Yes it is in the Evening News. He went in for an operation on his legs :-((

Like you, I'd just kind of assumed a heart attack or similar :-(((

Just read it on line Mary, I suppose his wife can be partly consoled by the fact that it highlighted the dangers and they have changed how they administer drugs. I note the nurse responsible has returned to Africa as well.

Could l just add another piece that was also part of the story in the paper...
the coroner said " Mr. Buckle's lung cancer and hardening of the arteries were major factors but his death was most likely because of the contributing factor of the noradrenaline "
Just wanted everyone to hear the full story.
R.I.P Clive.

Susan - don't worry I do that all the time. Besides, we are thinking along the same lines because he is missed.

It is so sad that Clive's death was hastened by a hospital blunder.
I've just read the newspaper report and even in her sadness, his wife has kind words to say.
What a lovely couple they must have been together.

We miss your wit and wisdom Clive.

What a dreadful thing to happen, you would have to be a special person to forgive such an error as that, and I am not sure I could cope if it happened to someone I loved.

Rest in Peace Clive, I wish your family peace too as they come to terms with this information. They must feel cheated not to have you in their lives now, you were a real gent.
