Thanks for the replies.
Am not really a puter buff.
I tried to run adaware and spybot - (free ones) and would cpuld go so far - then would or could not finish for some reason.

I installed AVG and have scanned and all seems ok, however I am still getting the odd window pop up, ranging from Santa to the more personal ones.

I have Mozilla Firefox already on puter - but have not used it much, think I will start to do so. See how it goes.

Howard - you mentined GRU - could you explain to me please - not sure what that means. LOL

I am not touchwood, at te moment get the message that windows needs to close.

Thanks again

Liz

I usually get internet explorer through clicking on my desktop icon, When this lails I go to it by the start up menu and that works.

Sounds like you may have inadvertantley encountered spyware by clicking the link.

Have you run a spyware remover such as Ad-Aware or Spybot or Malwarebytes?
Google for the downloads if you wish to use them.

I keep getting that message from windows and I then enter Internet explorer from a different way and it is fine.

I am using a lap top and keep getting web pages opening - this has only been happening a few days. Can somebody remind me how to stop them openeing please.

Also keep getting a message along the lines "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close"
Any ideas??

The only thing I can think I might have done that might have any bearing on this, I accidently clicked on so called link - shich I do not usually do, I think I got rid of link - but not sure.

Thanks

Liz
