Well, I am back from my week away from my pc.
It was a lovely relaxing holiday in Portsmouth; the sun shone down on the harbour, glinting off of the waves all day & the Spinnaker Tower changed colour in the evenings. My nights were not disturbed by the cathedral clock chiming ‘Come on Pompey’ every 15 minutes, as they were last year.
I found out the reason for the silent chimes, when we strolled round to have a look inside Portsmouth Cathedral, they are doing work on the dome & so have stopped the chimes. I made another discovery as I walked round inside, in an area of remembrance to those in the Sussex regiments who died in WW1 ... there was Uncle Will’s name with his regimental number.

Lucky you. worth going on holiday for.

I want to check my g grandparents actual death from the huge Victorian gravestone that I saw in my youth before starting on our history, I took dates then, but they don't match with BMD. My sister who lives nearer the graveyard than I has been and can't now fin the grave, she said a lot of the stones have been removed but she is going back today armed with grave numbers for a nother look, fingers crossed.

I found out about his death in France a while ago, but it took rather a long time as he was always called 'Will' when Mum spoke of him, his name was actually George James William.
I found his War Grave in France & was able to show my mother a photo of it before she died, (he died when she was about 18months old)
It was a real surprise to see this memorial to the men who died in WW1 from the Royal Sussex Regiment so many miles away in a Hampshire Cathedral.
