Hi
I am really annoyed with PRONI, I sent a email to them yesterday asking them how much it would cost to look up the will for my great grandfather, I gave them all the details, and asked them to get back to me, to tell me how much it would cost to do the search.
I recieved a email this morning this morning telling me they had done the search and that I need to pay them £15.50. Also on the payment form it saying they were searching for the deceased, and instead of it being my great grandfather's name they had put my mine there, so they obviously searched for me.
I sent them a email back saying that I am not willing to pay for it, and that they should make it more clear on their site, if they just automatically search for it when you contact them.
>:(
Has anyone else had this problem with them?

I had a look at the site and whilst I do not know if the following means wills or other research it does seem if you have been misled.

FROM THE SITE:
complete a PRONI Enquiry Form online.
Please do not send any money in advance. When your request is received we will contact you to let you know:
•if we hold the relevant records needed to proceed with a search
•the search fee payable should you choose to go ahead with the search

I thought so, when I read that. They can't make me pay can they? They have my email address and my home phone number which is ex directory.

They may try and demand money but I doubt they'd take you to court over it!

If they get funny send them a copy of the email you sent them and then they will see you were only making an enquiry.
