Thanks everybody. I haven't managed a coroner's report as such but did locate two reports of the event in the 1861 newspapers archive at Leeds Central Library.

I have obtained the newspaper reports on inquests in 1926 and 1928 from the local library or archives centre, so you may be lucky, but it depends how far back their records go.

One of the reports led to finding the death of a son in WW1, as it was mentioned that his mother was killed exactly eleven years to the day after him.

Jo
my Gt Aunt was killed at 2 and there was a report on it so went to local history studies centre and tey found the newspaper report for me and sent me what it said, not nice reading but at least it meant that we knew the truth and not the family stories that got handed down.

Good Luck

Jo my hubby's gggrandmother committed suicide in 1873. We found the report of the inquest in the local paper, it also gave some names of members of the family.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Sallie.

Try the A2A site type in coroners courts and some details of various courts will come up

Unless you are exceptionally lucky you are unlikely to find the original report.
I would contact the nearest coronors court to the death and ask them. Chances are they won't have anything. however, if they don't have anything contact the nearest archive/main library/records office as they are bound to have copies of local papers.

My gran committed suicide in the 1950's and I contacted the nearest coroners office, they replied to my e-mail within the hour but they didn't hold anything "that old" So my next port of call was the local records office who were wonderful. They checked the local paper for me, copied the article relating to the inquest and sent it to me. All for the cost of £1.00

Does anybody know if there are records of coroners inquests held, and if so, are they likely to go back to mid-1800s?
