According to Snopes it has not been proved either way.

Let me know if it works because when we get a fly in the kitchen OH is leaping around like a demented loon with an old badminton racquet.

I usually wait in the hallway in case I get swatted..lol

Do let us know if this really works, I do hate flies nipping around, so it sounds a great idea if it really sends them packing.

It does work. Some of the outdoor bars have them here, they hang them inside the sun brollies from the upright pole. Here they just use ordinary clear plastic bags with water, no coins. This is the first time I have heard about putting pennies in them
