Poor Hospital Care.

As anurse in a small cottage hospital, we were used to having patients transferred to us from another hospital with terrible bed sores, but complaining to administration had no effect. I would have been glad to be informed if I was missing out essential care for my patient.
The last time my OH was in hospital, he was given only two pillows. At 73, unable to lie flat because of a bad back and asbestos in his lungs he was very uncomfortable. I went to the desk and explained who I was and demanded more pillows, only to be told that two was all that were allowed. I was adamant and it was,nt long before they obliged! You have to have a bit of confidence, remember they would be out of a job if no one was sick.

When I was a nurse I enjoyed caring for my patients and having TIME to care. There is no TIME now.Nurses are chasing their tails the whole time.It is so wrong.
When my Mum was in hospital dying (300 miles away) I would go and visit and found myself feeding her AND 2 other ladies who were unable to feed themselves. The food was put in front of them ,but there were no staff available to feed them.I think this is totally unacceptable, but is not the nurses fault.I felt sorry for them. But felt so sad for the patients not having their needs seen to.
We as a Nation do not complain enough!!!!

There is a lot on the news about this at the mo, and also has been an article in the Take a Break magazine about poor nursing standards in some hospitals etc so do look and see where to contact to voice your views even if too late to help your loved ones, they still want to hear about it. I can't remember if there was something on the One Show too but there is sure to be lots of places to voice your opinions so you can influence future care standards. Sounds as tho there is to be a check made and better standards put in place.

I wouldn't hesitate to complain if anyone in my family was not looked after properly, I was lucky that both my parents, when in hospital, were well cared for.

Why was I too scared to complain or make an issue about the terrible care my mum received in KCH up to the time of her death.
She had large bed sores was left for hours lying in excrement, registered blind and no one bothered to feed her!
