No, Rose, I didn't watch this week's episode - same as I didn't watch last week's.

On principle.

Please don't tell me that A4E were featured again?

Well I haven't watched 'Benefit Busters' though I do watch 'Saints and Scroungers' (to think they have featured TWO mayors this week, both fraudulently claiming benefits.

So Rose....what were you left speechless about? Tell us lot who didn't watch it so we know what you're talking about lol.

By the way, I'm on benefits myself, being unemployed. I hope we don't have to have the old argument that ALL benefit claimants are scroungers. The ones they feature on TV, or those who DO misuse the system are very much in the minority. I hate being on benefits. I'd far rather be working and supporting myself and my partner with my own money.

Haven't watched it but I am sure TW that we all know you would rather be working. No luck on the job front then?

Not so far Ann. At 50 I'm beginning to feel as if I'm on the scrapheap. I'm not even getting replies to my applications.

Ah well, keep plodding on, something will turn up eventually. I'm up against school leavers now, but maybe some temp work will come up in the run-up to Christmas.

suffice to say that if I were looking for a job, some of the people 'trying to find me one' would be in grave danger of feeling the lash of my tongue...especially their odious and grossly complacent boss..... ;)

If I had to spend 30 hours a week in their 'courses' some of which amounted to no more than hours spent reading the newspapers ( not the ones that have jobs !) and making models with paper and selotape, while the course manager filled in forms in order to get HIS/ HER wages by meeting 'targets' ....s

sorry got to dash...or i could be here a lonnngg time! :)))

Back :))

I think the point really was that in a recession you just cannot come up with the number of jobs needed , even for those who are prepared to 'take anything legal'... and people on the courses were being 'misinformed' , that jobs availble were likely to be full time and permanent...whereas they were agency jobs , for the most part temporary. So for example, the main 'character' of last nights programme got the job, liked it, worked at it....and then the job was no longer. Then taking 3 weeks for his benefits to be reinstated.

Of course there is the argument that short periods of work are great for building confidence and experience....but that is then knocked out of you when you are back to square one on yet another 'course' ( I use that term very loosely from the opinion I formed of them!) and going through the rigmarole of re-applying for benefits all round.

The 'targets' are met by putting 'clients' into these temporary or 'no contract' ( average seemed to be 4 weeks ) vacancies... targets met, supervisor paid, happy bunny!
Best to get a job as a course supervisor then...if you are that kind of person.....

Hmm, sounds like another government scam to artificially reduce the true number of unemployed in the UK. They do it every time, invent all sorts of schemes where people can come off the dole, but all the time it is into their schemes and not 'real' work, of a permanent, paid, prospects nature.

If the true figures were known, it would probably be double the 'official' figures.
