Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 28 Aug 2009 15:19

I know all you kind people have lots of positive thoughts that you are so kind to share,I would be grateful for some for my SIL Joan who was admitted to hospital last Thursday and been transferred to several hospitals since and is now in Harefield Hospital . She was originally admitted locally with an acute sore throat and they thought swine flu symptoms but she has had several tests and then been transferred around to finally having been operated on Thursday to have an abscess drained from her lung.
Her OH is housebound so cant visit from NW London and just spoken to him and he is finding it difficult without her.
Thank goodness she has a couple of friends who have visited her and been to "see to" her OH .

Thank you Ann & Daff. My SIL is a really loved gal and was so good to her parents when they lived with her bros in Herne Bay Kent in the 1980/90,s She is one of those people who you wouldnt want anything bad to affect ,if you know what i mean,
I know that we all have our allotted span BUT she really needs to be with her OH as he needs her care!!

We went to see Joan today. took three hours to get there from Kent as the M25 had its usual hold ups. I rang this morning before we left because the website said you had to ring for visiting times as it varied according to the ward they are in.and was told it was 8am to 8pm ,got there at 1pm to find visiting was 2-8!!! so we had to go and get something to eat which we needed anyway.
We went to her ward which she is one of 5 beds and going in we looked to find her and nearly walked past her bed as didnt recognise the lady in the bed who looked quiteold!! was taken aback that it was her and how ill she looked. Is still hooked up to a nasal tube and being liquid fed through it she has more tubes for fluid etc and a drain on her lower throat that is still draining the abscess a week after it was operated on. Apparently she had a sore throat that just got worse over a week and then frighteningly she found wasnt able to swallow, they found after putting the camera down that she had the abscess just below where you swallow and it was the size of a tennis ball. thank goodness they were able to operate to drain it before it ruptured cos the outcome would have been catastrophic.
She really isnt a well lady though ,has swollen legs and feet and now having problems passing water so they were going to put a catheter in after she had a CT scan this afternoon.
We stayed for nearly two hours till they were taking her for the scan
She still needs all our positive thoughts for her full recovery

Poor Joan, she has been through the mill. I hope she will be lots better soon, it's awful when you don't recognise someone cos they are so poorly.
