When you contact someone one and you receive a request to view your tree without any other information-------do you like me want to know more info before you share your tree???

Ann.

Never let anyone view your tree unless you are sure its a genuine request.

ie ...Some sort of connection...a few names and dates.

Just asking to view your tree is a NO.. NO .....

I learn' t the hard way ..letting peeps view and next thing its all on their tree !!

Hi Marylin
Quite agree and no i don't just open my tree unless there are a few names, dates in common----just some one has just asked me if they can view my tree---and yes it's happenned to me in the past----taking stuff from my tree

Hi Ann :O)
I'm always wary of folk just asking to view my tree. I ask questions about family first and 'fish' for clues, see if we've anything in common Can't be too trusting can we?
Hope your OH is well.
Mau xx

I have been caught like that as well and when I requested to view their tree it was a no go, which was quite upsetting as it would have helped, so just be wary.

I always try to make sure they are really connected before I show people my tree on here. I only have my basic tree on here now though, so if they do copy it they will not get that much information anyway.

I'll help anyone with their tree and will give information, but they have to do some work for themselves too!

Of course I do Ann, no way anyone gets a look at my tree without first making a good case for me to do so.

Like telling me all they know about the parents, wife of the person we are supposed to share a link with and more importantly they connection to that person down the line, if they cannot do that, i am not going to tell them the answers and make it easy for them doing there family history, as I has cost me money to get it right, without me getting something in return.

Once bitten twice shy comes to mind.
