You are right,Rose.I had a reduction in Car insurance by £140...purely by spending a half hour or so comparing.

It should be a major tip for anyone renewing their insurance.

Hi Mary and Merlin,

The best old firm could offer was still £100 above ... even taking into account what they knocked off to keep me lol.

I failed to see how if I was cancelling the building cover it could still be well over half the original premium cost , when the bulding was ins' for 20 times as much as contents.

Pity I haven't got a car also lol as they would have knocked £20 of that just for buying the contents ins' .
xx

Rose, get back onto your old firm and tell them, also that unless they can better the quote you have got you will not renew with them, they might just undercut the price you have been given. worth a try, it worked for me.**M**.

Hello R Rose

Definitely pays to shop around.......I re-newed my car insurance yesterday and saved £98, very pleased with that :-))))

When I rang my existing insurer to get them to send out my NCD details they quoted me £282 to renew and when I said no, without pausing for breath, she said "I can do it for £259".........needless to say I still said no thanks lol. £184 is sooooo much better.

My insurance is up for renewal tomorrow, and as I only need contents now rather than contents & Building, phoned to change details..... Ouch! was fairly appaled that there was not enough difference so said I would ask around first!
Which I have just done , and (although I dropped the legal help clause which I am unlikely to need anyway ) , I managed to shave £100 pounds off the premium. Better in my pocket I think !

Worth looking if and when yours is up for renewal, the old firm was cheapest when i started out maybe 10 years ago, but it certainly isn't now.
