i am tempted BUT after reading this thread i think i will give it a miss

I dont know much about it, I lost interest when I worked out my car wasnt old enough (7 years) Ill have to wait another three by which time the scheme will be finished.

I think it depends on what you are after, it looks good on the small economical cars which is what I drive.

We have a 2 year old Estate which my OH drives and I use for the odd trip to IIkea and my city/town runaround a KA, although to be fair it does far more than town and reguarly does the 450 mile round trip to my sisters for the weekend (for just a tank of petrol about £33.00).

Id like a newer or nearly new small car much like the KA (Although I dont like their new shape) and under the scrappage car scheme if my car was old enough I could trade it in and spend about about 3k for a new town car which I think is good value and about what I was thinking of paying for a newer second hand car - but as I dont qualify its all a bit pie in the sky.

Mine is a good little runner and sails through its MOTS so I think ill have it for another 2 or three years as long as it dosent let me down and hopefully the new cars people have bought under the scrappage scheme will be on the market when im ready to trade up.

It's a con to get older cars off the road I think, and get us to spend more keeping the car factories in work!

Our Sierra is scruffy and old, but was working fine till we only needed one car for a while so stopped using the Sierra - when o.h. got back his licence, I had sorned the Sierra and we found we could just about manage with one car, so haven't bothered doing anything with the other one, the only time he misses it is if he wants to take anything big to the dump or pick up large items etc or if we both want the car at the same time, then we have to compromise. Luckily I have my bus pass and he has his bike, when his knee is ok.

What I can't understand is.....If it needs an MOT...then it works and is in fairly good order....soooo....why would it be scrapped?

I have only scrapped a car when it is not viable to continue to get it fixed or has no chance of getting an MOT.

Hi stranger, hope you are ok. I did suggest it to o.h. as we have my old Sierra on the drive, currently sorned but could get it mot'd and taxed again if it worked out worth while. However, from things I have heard and read I don't think it is all it's cracked up to be.

I know Sharron on General Topics (Carer's thread) did this and got a Smart car.
