I still have some baby stuff, one cot sheet they all slept on at one time, a terry and pin from when my eldest was baby ( he could believe thats what a real nappy was) and for some reason I thought was a really idea at the time was I kept the night shirt I gave birth to 2 of them in, I find that a bit gross now.. but still got it.

I would say one of the hardest things to "let go" of is bad memories.

Things can trigger of a memory of pain, hardship or just a bad time.

Someone once said you can forgive but not forget.

I'm married to a hoarder so I make myself lead by example and throw things out else we'd have no room to move here if I joined in with it.

I'm not bothered about anything much except the bits I've put in memory boxes from the children.......first shoes, teeth, selected baby clothes etc.....plus obviously family pics....

Anything replacable doesn't bother me......xx

Jean I have a little plastic duck also, just a very tiny one , when i was small my mother laid an old mirror down among the plants in flower bed and the little duck sat on the 'pond' :))

( needless to say he is going nowhere lol)

I have a little plastic duck which was given to me by the parents of a baby that I specialed at Aldershot Isolation hospital, when he was finally ready to go home after 6months. I remember crying buckets because I missed him. That was 55 yrs ago!

Everything I had from my first husband I got rid of,I had some really beautiful pieces of Jewellery,but I just wanted to get rid of it all,so I sold it at a loss,when he found out he was furious:-))lol

It is so hard deciding when it is time to let go and get rid.OH was getting so exasperated as the garage and loft were full of dead relatives belongings.I was given an ultimatum .Sort it and get rid or it would end up in the skip the following month.I got a friend to come and stay and help me decide .She was brilliant.We ended up with some small bits I wanted to keep,a load for car boot,some things that I sold to a collector ,and the left over tat to be binned..
We did the car boot and I made quit a reasonable amount.What was left was taken to a Charity Shop.
One thing I have kept is the bundle of letters that Mum and Dad wrote to eachother.They are in a leather wallet with a ribbon tied around.I havent read them as I feel they should be kept private.
Another thing I have in my bedroom is an old writing Bureaux(which is hideous)Probably just worth firewood.Mum asked me to take care of it as it belonged to Nanna.I just can't bring myself to get shot of it.

I have a ring stuck on my finger now! and don't know what to do with it anyway...my mum used to wear it when I was little but for many years the setting has been damaged....jade stone in middle , too chunky for me, do I keep or sell?

I save every birthday card all cards infact but with 3 of them OH made me get rid of them so I just have their birth and christening cards..

I keep all sons cards and paintings from when he was little , anything he ever made I have lol, even the clay chick which is now in pieces :)

Merlin will have a look at cameras on ebay first, get an idea if they are worth anything

thing is the jewellery I haven't worn ...there are favourite bits I wear all the time and others which have been in the box for 30 years lol...they are pretty but I don't really get the chance to wear them. I will keep my second engagement ring lol just because it is amethyst and I like it :)

Yep....I have let go of jewellery and must to disgust I found out my sister has still got my engagment ring off my ex and I have advised her to get shut of it or she will never have any luck......letters I hold on too, I still have sons letter he sent when he was over seas and I did have some there babystuff but I think Itsmytelly has a sort out when I am not about but if I went to look for them and found them not there I would be heartbroken.

Rose, I think it depends how much they mean to you, some things I could part with but some things mean too much. Imagine yourself without the things, If it doesn't bother you then get rid of them.

when I got married my husband was in the Army with moving every few years I think I got into the habbit of throwing everthing away but now looking back I wished I had thought twice of some of the things I thought were junk

Love letters, jewellery, nick nacks...anything or eveything ?

I am just debating on putting some things into the local auction ( rather than buying there!) nothing of value as such...old postcards, costume jewellery...the latter mostly given to me by my mum, so that's a tricky one...an early 20thC tea cosy, with the porcelain doll top.....some camera's etc.....

Won't make much but is that better than them all sitting in boxes for ever and a day?
