How much info do you put on your tree------

For others to see especially for living relatives----ie--do you put notes about them and do you put on DOB etc

It is against the terms and conditions of GR to put info on living relatives without their permission. It is also not a very wise move to allow anyone to see that information. I did in the early years and am still paying for it!

If you go to "My Account" at the top R.H.of this page, you will find the facility for hiding info on all living relatives. For every birth within the last 120 years which doesn't show a year of death, the word "hidden" will replace everything on the tree, including what information is on the lower part of the screen. Everything will show on YOUR screen, but it you give access to others, THEY can't see it.

The disadvantage with hiding "living" relatives is that the 120 year period is far too long as one often doesn't have a date of death so many relatives born from 1890 on are hidden although it's obvious that they must be dead from information from living family members.

Putting an estimated date of death is one solution, but that may be decades out.

A 100 year cut-off would still be a nuisance, but more reasonable.

Brian --I agree with you 100 years would be enough.

You mean my GR tree?
I put hardly any info on there. After GR's big blunder last year, where they gave open access to everyone's tree, and took ages to rectify it, I decided they weren't to be trusted and set to the process of chopping my branches down to little twigs. The twigs I've left are to encourage any Hot Matches, but as I've never had any luck with those I don't feel I'm missing out!!!!!

I much prefer the user-friendly trees of FTM and Tribal Pages.

Tribal Pages tree builder is far superior to GR.
You can keep it private or let others ee what you want them too.
