I hope you all use this in your area. It is a great way to recycle things. I have this week recycled a compost bin, some house plants, computer magazines, a block of beeswax and all received with thanks from the recipients. Stuff unsuitable for charity shops, unwanted electrical goods that have life left in them and surplus furniture. I have seen pet beds, spare car wheels, trailers, empty jamjars and flower pots, to name a few. Have a look.

Jean I have received and given away stiff on freecycle.

At the minute in boot of my car have a brand new bathroom sink that hubby will install when children have gone back to school and got him a lovely sounding guitar that he is made up with.

The archway in garden that the fruit trees are growing up was made out of wooden ladders that we got off there and got lots of stuff for school PTA as well.

Hubby always gives me a look when he sees me onthere as he knows what I am like lol

I think Freecycle is brilliant. I have received and given lots of things away on there too. I even gave away an old calender of nice scenes of Wales - its amazing the things that people want - and its a great way to recycle.

It is wonderful!

We have got rid of many things, which people have been so pleased with. A new toilet bowl and cistern was left over from a project and the lady who collected it was thrilled as she had a cracked bowl.

A couple of weeks ago we got an Epsom printer, same model as ours, which wasn't feeding paper through. My husband intends to have a go at mending it, but if not the inks will be used in our machine.

I wasn't too pleased when he 'aquired' a few hundred housebricks, and I was roped in to help load them several times over in the boot of the car. They were left over from an extension and will be used to extend our garden wall ...... sometime! (No doubt I will be labourer again!)

It is much better than taking things to the tip for landfill.

It is really great.
Over the weekend we "lost" an ironing board, a cutlery tray, a wheelchair (in need of TLC) and a table lamp. A folding table should be going on Sunday.
The list of other things we have passed on is too long to remember: a set of Metro wheels, empty dog food bags, boxes, two mattresses, family history magazines, a bicycle, a dining table & 4 chairs, a tape/CD music centre, another cutlery tray, a basin & pedestal, curtain rails, videos and so on, and on and on.

We've acquired quite a lot too, including a microfiche reader, bricks, a printer, card making materials, a wheel for the car, computer magazines, .

I have to say, I have never heard of freecycle. Is it like an online bring and buy? It sounds great.

Sorry for not knowing!

Gumtree is good too, you don't have to join, and there are freebie threads as well as for sale ones. take a look, there is everything you can think of listed.

So pleased to see so many already use Freecycle. One of the nice things is meeting people and if they want what you are offering they will fetch it.
looking now, I have a router to go as I have now got a home hub and More computer magazines!

well I tried and found it one of the unfriendliness sites to subscribe to so gave up and had my lovely mahogany wall unit (that my father built) burnt, at least it wasn't buried

looks like my solid oak table and chairs may go the same way

hey ho

"I tried and found it one of the unfriendliness sites to subscribe"

It shouldn't be that hard, once you register everything else normally runs with no bother.

And it would be a crime to burn a lovely oak table and chairs.
If you can't freecycle them (although I'm sure you could) then how about your local hospice shop: ours does free collections.

You don't have to register on Gumtree and I have found it fine to use, just pick your nearest town/city and post a message and you can sell/give away lots of things.

I have literally given away hundreds of things on Freecycle. For the one unfriendly person, I have met dozens who weren't. if I treat them with respect, take the time to say thank you , I 've rarely had a problem.
Currently looking for a new bed for my granddaughter whose bed is broken, she's on the floor, and giving away a ceiling fan, some toys, clothes, and when sorted a pile of flower pots of various sizes.. Each week we put out very little for the rubbish, recycle or freecycle everything. I've even freecycled little bottles of odd screws, half-full chemicals from the garden shed etc, received plants, furniture, clothing, books , packaged food etc etc.
it's a great system, we don't have gumtree here, we have Kijiji.

PLEASE Kim Don't burn OAK it takes too long to grow and is one of our national trees.try you local council as ours has a reclaim for household goods where anyone can go if in need.also try your free adds in local paper.sorry for sentiment but i love real wood, and not to many houses are built big enough to take anything made from it,anymore.
