Thought maybe some of you might like to order the calender to help them out, if you can't take a dog.

I have a rescued Greyhound. He is 13 years old now and I've had him since he was 2 years old. A fantastic breed and I would recommend them to anyone thinking of taking on a dog. xxx

He was probably helping the rescued dogs from the Greyhound track at Yarmouth, Rita?

I haven't been to Yarmouth for ages so wouldn't know if he is still around

Tales of rescued greyhounds in new calendar

TRACEY GRAY
02 September 2009 11:31

Many of them have been left for years without anyone to care for them.

But now a calendar featuring the heart-wrenching stories of some of the dogs rescued by campaigning group Action for Greyhounds is hoping to raise awareness of the plight of abandoned greyhounds.

All of the money raised from the sale of the calendar will go towards helping highlight the cruel treatment suffered by some of the greyhounds they have rescued.

Annie Boddey, from the group, said: “We think this the first greyhound campaigning calendar like this.

“We wanted to get the message out there and for people to see the stories of the dogs we have helped to rescue for themselves.”

The 14 page, A4-sized calendar features nine greyhounds rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed by AFG, and a further three dogs belonging to supporters.

Each image is accompanied by text relating to the greyhounds featured and remembering a greyhound lost.

One of those featured in the calendar is Rum Gal.

Her story in the calendar reads: “When of no further use or value as a racing dog, Rum Gal was not placed with a rescue home, but rather homed independently and seemingly off-loaded without any concern given for the animal's welfare and security.

“Months later Rum Gal was picked up as a stray on the streets of Norwich.”

Another message on the calendar tells the plight of greyhound Blue Belle Jo, who after two years on the racing track was given over to the care of an alcoholic. Before being rescued she was given little care and was housed in a dilapidated shed.
