Permission to use information

A few months ago a distant relation I found on this site gave me permission to use information from her tree on my own tree. I duly did so.

She has now contacted me as apparently, in a search, she's found a common relative has new relatives in their tree and feels the information could only have come from mine.

Where do I stand on this? She gave me permission to use information from her tree, and I gave this other lady permission to use information from mine.

Do I now need to contact the other relative and ask her to remove information from her tree which was provided to me by the first relative?

*confused*

Hi Floundering,
Your distant relation allowed you to copy info from their tree. So I can't see how that person can be aggrieved, if you've given someone access to your tree & permission to copied some or all of this.

The info was shared with you, without restriction. So you're entitled to share it to.

Just explain that you had given permission for someone to see & use your tree, in the same way that you distant relation allowed you to.

Regards,
Steve.

If she gave you access to her tree, she has no complaint unless the information is about living people. You (and she) MUST have permission from those people to use their information in your trees.

If, however, the info is about ancestors, once she opens her tree to you, there is nothing she can do about it being passed on to others.
