Well phoned Harefield Hospital today as havent heard from her OH . She is described as "stable", is siting in her chair by the side of her bed BUT the abscess in her throat is STILL draining despite it being operated on last Wed week She has been on antibiotics now for nearly four weeks . She may have to go back to theatre next Tuesday for another op for further draining, meanwhile she is on a drip feed though her nose for liquid and liquid feeding. Its very worrying !

Shirley - has your daughter got what they used to call 'quinsey'? My daughter had this awful thing just before Christmas 1980. She was in hospital for a few days but it all flared up again the following August. She was on a drip on both occasions for antibiotics and fluids as she could not swallow her own saliva without great pain. After a lot of dithering by our GP she had her tonsils out in the September. Our GP assured us that 'quinseis' (I can't spell it!) never appear on both sides of the throat. When the surgeon removed the tonsils he said her throat was a mess and the quinsies were growing again on both sides of her throat. We were very worried at the time but she got over it and made a lovely bride this year.

Wishing you well.

Janet

Hi Shirley, your poor s.i.l. must be fed up with all the pulling about and not being able to eat properly etc. but at least she is being well monitored and hopefully will be lots better soon.

Hi Janet
Its my sister in law Joan. apparently she had a sore throat that got progressively worse till she found she couldn't swallow anything even saliva. She went to her docs who sent her to the local hospital who then passed her on to another hospital cos they didn't have the facilities to deal with it they then passed her to Harefield Hospital in Middlesex which is a specialist hospital doing heart and lung transplants and thoracic excellence.
We dont know why she got this abcess . the doctors cant tell her what has caused it but she is a very sick lady
