I was a Girl Guide, the third generation to be one. My Grandmother was a Guide all her life, from the girl guides, through to running her own company of Guides, and then as she retired, joining the Trefoil Guild. |

Actually its a year long celebration of 100 years of guiding, which was launched last weekend - the celebration will continue for the whole year with events, activities & camps etc. |

I was never a Brownie, not sure if we had them in Ireland in my time! But two of my brothers were in the Scouts, one loved it and the other was abused...by the Scout Master. BCXX |

Good point about the lack of helpers/leaders, Ann. The group I help with only has two other adults (apart from me) and really I think we could do with another one, but maybe parents and older brothers/sisters think that there must be enough adults already if the group is up and running, but since I'm helping with a group of Rainbows it is a lot for three adults to be overseeing around sixteen small children. You have to have eyes everywhere! |

I was never allowed to join the guides as my parents could not afford the uniform. I was a red cross cadet (uniform the same almost as school uniform). But we didn't go away to camp. |

I think it's still relevant, but is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea. I was never a Guide or Brownie, possibly because I don't like doing 'organised' things very much! |
