Just remembered when reading through these replies I also had AMtico in one of the house we have lived in and it was fantstic...it isn't cheap and Amtico will want their trained staff to lay it BUT what a beauty it !
Nothing compares to it. other than my slate floor

Having been a house cleaner for a while in the past, I would say good quality vinyl flooring would be my choice. One place had pale green laminate and it chipped so easily, it was awful. I got a remnant of vinyl flooring which was commercial quality, left over from a hairdressing salon job, and that lasted really well and cleans up a treat.

Thank you all for your input, will have a day or three trailing the shops and comparing.

We're lucky that we don't have washing machine etc in kitchen it's plumbed in the garage and don't have dishwasher except for OH who's Master of the kitchen anyway.

My Son in law had laminate floor fitted in his kitchen, was only down a week and the washing machine sprang a leak and flooded the floor he had to have it taken up and dumped and then decided to have ceramic floor tiles instead. The floor layer got two jobs out of that!

We had laminate fitted in January in the kitchen and hall, it is quite noisy and we can see the dog hairs constantly, dog is mostly WHITE !! so l just have to hoover more often or go over it quickly with a damp mop. We've put a washable carpet/runner down for dog so he does'nt slip about. Its easy to clean and looks smart.

We're happy with ours, it was quite pricie though, the one that should'nt warp if wet!! (B&Q)

We;ve got a wood laminate flooring in the kitchen - it's been down for about eight years and my mum hates it now. It's quite a light wood but because we've got two cats and a dog (and nobody takes their shoes off in the house) it's covered in scratches and marks. Also, we've had problems with the dishwasher leaking recently so it's made a couple of panels raise up slightly and by the patio door there is another raised bit with a water mark.

It'd definitely taken a battering from all the traffic well but my mum says she's having tiles next time!

Hated my laminated floor and could not wait to have it took up.Just thankful it was just in the kitchen and no where else.Very noisy and very cold.I now have amtico floor all downstairs.All done in herrinbone witha border.Its a plastic floor laid in strips and has a sawn off edge.Absolutely beautiful. Warm and quiet.Also do different patterns. Annie

I have had wood floors, laminate floors, Vinyl floors all types of floors but my favourite is slate or tiles, easy to clean never date and hard wearing.

Unfortunately it looks as though I am in the opposition here. I have laminate and it was very expensive, not the el cheapo variety, yet it is chipped all over. I can't wait to go back to lino type flooring.

Our eldest Labrador decided to take up the lino/vinyl in the kitchen when he was young.
Hence the kitchen and utility room don't quite match !

This is of interest to me as we need to renew our kitchen flooring which has been down for 15 years, it is cushion floor and has been really good but is beginning to wear now. Is laminate very slippery if wet? And is it easy to lay yourself?

Hi just trying to get a few pro's and cons re the fitting of Laminate or Vinyl ie thick stuff cushion flooring in kitchen, don't want to make an expensive mistake.
