I heard this guy on Radio 2 a few weeks ago saying that he uses those prepaid envelopes you get with junk mail to post his own letters and just covers the name with a label.

Ive tried it and it works, just wondering if anyone else does it? After all, we're in a recession and stamps are terribly expensive...

It's never crossed my mind to do that Matthew to be honest !!!

Knowing my luck I'd get caught anyhow so I doubt I'll try it xx

Hmm, it's an idea though.

Let's face it, if these companies have got the money to send pre-paid envelopes with their junk mail, then obviously they are relying on us to throw them away rather than use them to send stuff elsewhere. Maybe if more of us used their pre-paid envelopes for anything other than replying to them, it would start costing them too much to be sending junk mail out to us in the first place....

Do you see where I'm going with this? lol

I always send it back to the sender...cut my name and address off the paper work at least it costs them the postage.

Prepaid envelopes are not always prepaid. Depends on how they are marked.

The company pays for the mail when they get the envelopes back. The Post Office counts them on delivery and sends a bill to the company possibly once a month.

Hi all

I heard that it is only illegal if you reuse a STAMP not an envelope. When a prepaid envelope is sent in another envelope through the post, then it hasnt been used and is perfectly legal.

I assume that if it wasn't then the Beeb would have got Steve Wright to read out some ghastly apology for the man's comments on his show like "This is an illegal practice and does not represent the views of the BBC..."

Why waste them. I look upon it as recycling lol!!!

Love your idea Karen. Hope you are well.
