I was looking out of the window and saw what I thought were sparrow hawks and kestrels, hovering above the field where the farmer on his tractor was cutting the grass, but there was one bird larger than the others and under its wings it looked like it had a eye. Any one know what it was please? It was obviously looking for small animals disturbed by the farmer and it looked like the smaller hawks didn't like it on their patch, so to speak.
Not seen this one before. Any ideas?

Could it have been a Buzzard?I don't know about the 'eye'.I wonder if you googled something like 'markings on birds of prey'whether you might find something there.

I don't know much about birds of prey, but if you look on Google images, there's a buzzard in flight that seems to show an 'eye'.

Hi Jane Thank you so much. I have been googling and never thought of a buzzard. Just had a look and I think you could be right. The markings under its wings look very much like what I saw.
This is the first one I have seen, it was amazing.
How beautiful our birds are.
Thanks again, so glad I can give him/her a name.
