First thing I wondered is, on the downside, would that mean we would all get lots of extra e-mails from FindMyPast? (I get loads from World Vital Records and I don't ever remember joining them!) On the up side, would membership of this site entitle Genes users to a discount on FindMyPast . . . ?

(I am my gran's granddaughter when it comes to saving money!)

If they have got any sense, they will leave things as they are and survey Genes users about which bits of this site are considered useful, pointless, never visited, essential etc.

if they combine the 2 sites, would we end up using Find My Past and would the boards look different?

Would we lose past threads etc?

Actually this news is weeks old


Findmypast has not bought GR


The company that publishes Beano comics has bought GR


It also owns findmypast

................ so findmypast and GR are now owned by the same company .......... and it had to go before some UK government monopoly committee because this means that one company owns 2 of the 3 biggest genealogical sites in the UK.

The 3rd site is ancestry.



They were quoted at the start of all this as saying that they would not be combining GR and findmypast ............. but I guess we have to wait and see.
