Good morning everyone.

I have been asked to work in a village near to Hastings for about 6 months and so I will need accommodation for myself and my husband. The company is willing to pay for this BUT as I do not know the area I am seeking some help as to where to avoid etc. I am looking for a two bedroom accommodation from early October to end of March 2010. This date may be extended.

I will be working near to a place called Whitegate.

Can anyone help or advise.?

Many thanks

Have you tried entering "Hasting Estate Agents" - several sites should come up giving details of property. As it is a holiday area, you may find a holiday cottage or similar this time of the year which the owner may let through the autumn/winter.

I thought of suggesting that but then an Estate Agent isnt likely to say anything negative about a particular area if they can secure a short term tenancy.
Perhaps subscribing for a month or so to a local newspaper and making a note of any crime patterns or court cases might be effective on identifying areas you may not wish to live in

I live about 40 minutes drive from Hastings and, although I can't offer you accommodation (sorry) I could check some places out as we often go there. Have to say I don't know Whitegate...where is it and where will you be working?

When I was looking for holiday accommodation in that area, I came across holiday lets that were prepared to do longer winter lets so why not take a look at those, there were some nice houses and apartments etc.
A site called holiday lettings is good and describes the places well usually with lots of pics so you can see what you are getting, or you can just google accommodation in Whitegate, Hastings.
Good luck.

Thank you everyone and I shall follow all of these through tomororw. I have one possibilty which the company ois looking at Tomorrow..I never thought about long term winter lets for holiday homes.

For those that asked I am specialist in Care of the Elderly both nusring and residential care and also fairly well known for Dementia Care. Some people will recall how they helped me last year to take a very big decision and I stopped work. However as the company have agreed that this time OH could come with me and I may only have to stay for 3 months we decided that I would accept the offer....The extra money is always useful !!

Helen and Dawnie

Thanks for the messages, and I will look at the the newspaper.
The general opinion seems to be that it is a pleasant area and also there are quite a lot of historical places to visit in my spare time.

I am rather looking forward to seeing the area and this time the home is not in crisis and the staff are well settled ...I have even been informed that it will be unlikely for me to have to work any weekends!

Thanks again and I will keep this updated so you all know where I land. Please stay on the thread

Have a good day

Bridget
