Oh, Bob, I'm absolutely positive that an entire school system got rid of all its black chalkboards and replaced them with wipeable plastic boards because blackboards offend people of African descent. I have no doubt in my mind.

I know that this is the reason why all the corporate boardrooms and conference rooms in the world don't use black chalkboards. Goodness, one just can't be too careful.

Especially if one doesn't have the sense one was born with.

What it must be like living one's life believing that an antiquated teaching tool was replaced with a modern one because the colour of the old one was offensive to some hypersensitive foreigner or some dictatorial leftist, I really have just never succeeded in imagining.

I gather there are people who believe such things. I have a hunch there are even some in the vicinity of hereabouts. Not, of course, thyself, Bob.

Janey, it IS fact that BLACK BOARDS have been removed from UK schools, and now use WHITEBOARDS and coloured marker pens.........now whether it was to do with the COLOUR aspect I'm not sure, but possibly it was to do with all that WHITE chalk dust in the air..........I also recall our teachers being quite accurate with aiming chalk sticks or erasers at errant pupils......

I heard that kids in England have to stand 5 feet apart at all times in case of accidental inappropriate touching, and must not say "good heavens" on school property because it might offend atheists ... or heaven worshippers ... and in fact are not allowed to have any coloured markers at all because Martians might be offended by the colour green ...


Perhaps Staffordshire Col is missing the real story: the dictatorship of the really silly people who believe anything they hear that suits their prejudices, that appears to be developing.

Graham having met Col I can say hes a very nice bloke he wouldnt hurt no-one I think the aim of the thread was to open it for a good discussion which is what its achieved we are all made different to create a world and is good to embrace the diversity of others x

That's a bit harsh Graham, after all, this is chat, it doesn't have to be about genealogy...it can be about anything, it's what it's here for.

Muffy , thanks to a friend I have my passport form ( and son's first) all ready to send off... so hopefully it will be easier in future... but it IS a nightmare trying to find enough documentation to prove that you have lived and worked here all your life.

I don't consider myself to be daft.........but the forms I had to fill in today did my head in !!!!!!

No wonder so many don't bother.......without a valid passport it's almost impossible to prove your ID......I've jumped through hoops to prove my ID today and I've lived here all my life AND paid tax........surely it can't be that bl**dy hard with all the data bases we have for it to be verified. xx

Graham, there is plenty of family history to be found on the other boards , and here too if people wish to post it and always someone around to help.... 'Chat' is just that, and covers a mutitude of topics ... we all have varying opinions which is what makes it a welcome break from searching for relatives and knocking our heads against 'brick walls' :))

One thing that does kind of annoy me, though i understand the reasons for it...is that, not having a driving licence or at present a passport ( soon to be remedied ) , I have to jump through more hoops to prove I am who I say I am , in banks etc.... photo ID could be faked just as easily surely as my birth certificate etc ?

I logged on tonight hoping to find information on family history instead Ive got some twit asking daft questions, I suggest you log on somewhere else Staffordshire Col or if your feeling so annoyed then emigrate mate get out of the UK and discover a new life in the mean while other people might start using genes reunited to find there families past or present I wasnt aware Id logged onto the rant of some unhappy individual lifes about choices use your passport and lave the more fools leaving the UK the better try the USA !

I'm sure it happens but it isn't true that school children are forbidden from competitive sports just because there are some schools that choose not to allow them.

I'm not one for all this nanny state stuff.........BUT

I have to admit at the girl's school.....they do still compete at sports day.....but the ones that come last or struggle get the biggest cheers of the day.....mainly from myself and my very loud mates lol.

Mind the children often *high five* the ones that struggle but carry on to the finishing line which is lovely to see xx

I can tell you that my grandsons school had school sports day,
where upon everyone was a winner.

This was a Junior School

No child ran a race and won ...their sports consisted of bean throwing ,hoop rolling, passing a ball over their heads etc. every house team moved on to the next hurdle around the field, and the end of the day points were scored on a time basis

The points were added and the HOUSE with the most points won.
But the Head Master stated to all the children YOU are ALL winners.
This happened in July of this year I was there !

The public pays for waste disposal. (The public elects representatives to decide how waste will be disposed of.)

It's your waste. Maybe you can make alternate arrangements for it, that the public won't be paying for.

Don't worry about polluting the world / squandering resources the world needs. Do what you like. At your own expense.

And of course the eternal "unelected Prime Minister". Neither you nor I nor anyone with a parliamentary form of government has ever in history had an elected Prime Minister. Canada's had more than one unelected Prime Minister just in recent years. Of course, they did have the good grace to have Parliament dissolved and an election called, and lose it ...

Colin, I *hate* being told what to do but I have to disagree with you on a lot of these points, a lot of which seems to be the things that tabloids go on about and aren't always rooted in fact - such as school children being forbidden from competitive sports which just ain't true. And as far as I remember we always had to have uniforms at school and get them from the one shop in town - or actually where the cast offs of brothers and cousins and neighbours lol

Not a fan of Labour but they were voted in at the last election and whoever leads the party in power is PM, so no need for an election.

No-one tells me what to eat and drink.

Most of the other things are for our own benefit. People are bloody lazy and if they're not made to recycle things, they won't bother. It's the way we've become in society when years ago everything was recycled in different ways.

If your daughter or your granny was mugged or raped in the street, you'd be damn glad of CCTV if it helped to catch the bastard. And planning laws are there to protect everyone else, not that they always work.

However, I do object to over taxation of cigarettes and alcohol. And I vehemently oppose ID cards, never mind being made to pay for the damn things
