I have been going on the Records, Tips and Trying to Find and trying to help people with their searches for about 12 months now, trying to repay for the massive amount of help I received when first starting my own research, and still get when I am stuck.

Now, I have been royally told off, for putting on a thread that is was a duplicate thread, many people had contributed loads of the same information on each thread for the very same person.

This telling off was sent via PM.

Do I keep trying to help and let it slide, or stop helping altogether???

Need some advice please.

Gail

I will put a note on a duplicate thread so as others can avoid duplicating work already done.
If it was the thread orignator who PM,d you I expect they were a bit miffed but didnt want to understand the rule of one thread per topic.
Personally I would ignore them and carrying on helping where I could .

hi firstly how rude of someone to pm you telling you off what some people forget is we are not paid to do this we do it off our own backs and at the end of the day they are not our bosses so its not up to them to tell anyone off if you enjoy helping carry on with your good work and dont let it get to you a big hug from me too x

I think I am in shock that someone would PM me, just because of a duplicate thread. I think they missed the point of having the work done twice, when time could have been spent helping someone else. I only found out by accident as was trawling through the threads as also find this helpful for hints on how to help.

I do think at times newbies think that we are paid to do this, I never though that even when I first started on GR, But, I do have the time and resources (and few paid sites that I have) to help when I get sick of trying to find one of my elusive ancestors, it is a break from the tedium.

Sorry to moan, it blew the wind out of my sails for a while there.

I personally would rather have te information twice that not at all. Anyway if she had not put up two threads she would not have got it answered twice.

Some people are so ungrateful and rude. Please carry on helping there are so many of us who are eternally grateful for the unpaid and unstinting help we receive on here.

Bless you all and THANK YOU.

Gail,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do not take any notice of anyone who makes you feel that it is not worth helping others, if you and all the very kind people on this site who offer their very kind help and time stopped doing what you do, Well i for one would never of got as far as i have with my tree.
It is the very likes of you Gail and all the others who have been so kind over the years with your help and unlimited time in pointing us in the right direction!!!! and we are all VERY thankful
I FOR ONE WOULD BE VERY UPSET IF YOU ALL STOPPED DOING THIS WONDERFUL WORK!!!!! and what makes it more remarkable is, is that you are not even paid for doing it!!!! WHAT WONDERFUL PEOPLE YOU ALL ARE!!!!!!, So Please take no notice of these nasty, not worth bothering with scum, they just have nothing better to do then try and upset good folk like yourself any others. I really hope this makes you feel better Gail because we need people like you and we are all very thankful for all you do for us. Chin up Gail do not let this persons silly remark get you down !!! they really are not worth, AND A BIG HUG TO YOU.

I am not going to stop trying to help others. I still get help myself at times.

Also, I do not expect thanks or gratitude, but did not expect abuse either.

But, I have written down this persons GR number and will not help them in the future. So it is their loss now, not mine.

It may be that they think we are paid to do the job.
