How can I find out about a possible illegitimate aunt when I don't know anything about her mother's name. I know my grandfather possible had a daughter but no-one knows anything about her except there was the original announcement in a local newspaper |

Do you know about annoucement which paper what year did she have you Grandfathers name how did they know the announcement was the correct one ? Alison can any family help? |

Unfortunately, my only living relative won't talk about it as it was such a scandal. I think it was announced in the Sunderland Echo or the Sunderland Evening news. All I know is that it was my uncle's 10th bithday in 1942 and apparently, this woman turned up on my grandparents door with a baby announcing that it was my grandads. My family were living in Murton, Co. Durham at the time. |

Alison, a good start would be to check the archives of the newspaper mentioned. A quick google of the paper's name should help there, or failing that, a library in the area should hold archives. It's a precise date, your uncle's birthday in 1942 so you have a good starting point. |
