Hi Alison.

Might I suggest a time and an area, might be of some help?

Also, remember that if this lady is still living, keep her name from the boards.

Unfortunately, my only living relative won't talk about it as it was such a scandal. I think it was announced in the Sunderland Echo or the Sunderland Evening news. All I know is that it was my uncle's 10th bithday in 1942 and apparently, this woman turned up on my grandparents door with a baby announcing that it was my grandads. My family were living in Murton, Co. Durham at the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alison, a good start would be to check the archives of the newspaper mentioned. A quick google of the paper's name should help there, or failing that, a library in the area should hold archives. It's a precise date, your uncle's birthday in 1942 so you have a good starting point.

They may not give details of the baby's name, but you never know what was mentioned in the report...

Thanks for all your help - I guess without her mother's name I am not going to have any luck.. I will try the archives of the paper tho - thanks.
