went to pick dog up thinking the worse they would tell me was her ligaments had been torn and they would operate on her. Yes was told that but also told she has hip displacia not usual in springers but a bad case and the reason she walks at an angle.

Unless I want to find orthopedic vet at a cost of £4,000 per side there is nothing they can do apart from painkillers and keep an eye on her.

Not sure if gonna give her knee op now shes 9 and theres no gaurantee it will work so probably just rest her and see how she goes and get her weight down to help her hips and leg.

Got one very sad looking dog now who isnt sure whats going on

Snap SHRat.... and she lived til 14!! The weight loss, and the cod liver oil and Glucosamine made the biggest impact on her... took a few weeks to see a difference. she was diagnosed at 8.

I bought her one of those thermal fleecy beds as well, always carefully dried her if it rained when I was out walking her....

A springer does tend to be a bit more energetic, lol...... but it is worth a try for a while. Oh, and exercise in soft areas, such as grass, mostly... just a little bit of quiet road walking.

Dawnie, the year before last, we shelled out nearly £4000 for a special operation for our dog, and she had to be taken to Birmingham for it, as we are in Derbyshire. At present, she is having to have special baths at the Vet's about every 7/8 days, costing £72, per time. Also her tablets for thyroid are due for renewal at £56 per bottle. These days,I am afraid, there are no cheap Vet's, and a couple of years ago, ours was exposed as the most expensive in the country. I'm afraid it is a case of love it or leave it, the Vet that is, and hope for the best for your dog. It is terrible, the costs these days
Good Luck

Julia

as hubby now not working and I cant afford the pet insurance and the excess on it go to the PDSA which you just give donation of whatever you can afford. They give you a print out of what each treatment cost for her xrays and painkillers cost £155 today.

I always feel guilty as cant afford to give them much, when I go and get her new food will save the loat she has just started and take it along to them rather than see it go to waste.

well shes finally ate her food but hasnt hobbled upstairs yet which is unusual.

Daff last April I fell in love with a dog on the Oldies club which is part of Dogs trust and adopted him he was 18 and we thought hed only have a few weeks but we would make him comfortable for whatever time he had left. Little soldier lasted til december didnt go for walks just round garden and if you put a lead on him he would sit down and not budge lol.

Now if i had the money would love an animal shelter to help the dogs and cats that need it.
