Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 17 Sep 2009 22:06

does anyone actually post on General anymore?

The board doesn't seem to have changed in weeks. The same threads are on the front page from what I think were weeks ago when I last looked.

I always posted on there for years but then suddenly Chat was more interesting.

What has happened?

I do... well, I have a thread that was kindly put up when I was ill... and as I was recovering it was where I went because I couldn't cope with the aggro on chat... I had my own battles I was fighting in the real world, lolol... better now though, so branching out more. But I still love General.

I stopped posting on gen when the game threads took over TBH. most days we would be chatting away on there, then all the game threads would be nudged up, taking current threads off the first page, and i'd have to go hunting for the thread I was on. It got annoying for me.

Hi,

I love General and until recently was always there instead of on Chat.

I just seemed to follow people whose board names I recognised and liked from there to here.

Just seen so many threads that seemed to never have moved.
Probably my mistake and they are so popular they are always on the front page.

Hope I haven't upset anyone on General. Not my intention. I might just bombard you with quizes again when I get the time.

i couldnt be bothered with chat when it was one long thread it seemed very "clicky" the it changed n was full of fights lol "ano who would have guessed"
and again was clicky it was like if you were on gen and posted on chat "you were not allowed to be fromt he other board" so i posted on chat more to be honest coz i could lol

now i rarely look at gen probly once a week if that, coz it is full of games threads

I actually changed over and started looking at Chat because General was having a lot of infighting.

Chat is getting it now so the grass isn't greener.

I'll just jump between the two now and look for those I know are nice people with a sense of humour and you know you can have a laugh or serious discussion with, without being reported or slagged off.

This is after all an adult site. Pity some of the members haven't quite managed to master the out of the nappies stage.

Stray,

When I joined about 5yrs ago I looked at Chat and couldn't make head nor tail of it. One line sentences and I never knew who was talking to who.

I hated it. No conversation to speak of. Actually I thought it was a lot of bloody drivel.

The look of page one makes me think that the board is stagnant. This seems to be because there are a number of threads which only require the addition of one or two words. Perhaps people add their post each day before going on to other boards - but this brings the thread up to page one again.

I am only interested in ploughing through pages to get to the latest post, if I think the most recent posts will be interesting.

ஐ+*¨^¨*+e+*¨^¨*+ஐ Mildred Honkinbottom Report 18 Sep 2009 08:21

What killed the Gen board for me was the sheer number of game threads, mainly on the same subject which flood the boards.

A-Z of this and that get right on my pip. Why on earth cant the subject line change after we reach Z rather than post more and more for each subject. ?

I also find the bad news threads depressing (Daffs single support thread and others like that aside)

Some people only seem to be able to post doom and gloom threads on there.,A disaster, or even a mild unfortunate news story & some are in their element and seem to thrive on it. In fact Ive seen them post little else.

I often see positive thought threads between a couple of friends appear like a long running serial. Dont get me wrong, its nice to be big hearted, but why cant this long standing sympathy tennis match be played on one updated thread, instead on new threads outlining every daily ailment or woe these people have.

Surely a light hearted thread of support with regular updates would be better than emphasizing how bad things are and asking for sympathy every few days.

Anyway, these are the main reasons i rarely post on gen anymore, sorry to anyone who ive offended in posting this. I'm just beeing honest in what i think.

I look in on both boards most days and I agree, the A-Z are inclined to swamp any other potentially interesting thread. But as many members have decamped to Chat, it is not surprising that the input is not as sprightly as it could be! In any event, I will always tune in to Daff's thread. She is a remarkable woman and her thread is by no stretch of the imagination, filled with doom and gloom! B C XX

Lol BC....Morning, Mwah! I soooooo can do doom and gloom if I'm pushed to it, lolol!!

That doesn't really suit me, though.... I love a bit of frivolity to lighten the day!!

I am getting more used to chat.... I remember when the boards changed two years ago, now.... a lot of people moved to chat then, and some, like me, who were slower to move across, were actually publically and on the boards, told not to, and to *keep to your own board* lol... these weren't the original chat users, by the way, but people who had themselves migrated as a result of those changes. There was quite a bit of rudeness going on by some who should have known better!

This made me feel very unwelcome, and also somewhat defiant... so I would post on chat mainly to make the point that I could!! But I felt uncomfortable...... so stayed mainly on General.

That is changing as more new members join, and others I know, have met, and love are using chat more and more. I am slowly beginning to feel more comfortable on chat.

I am still more comfortable on general because the threads I like to add to are on there, Daff's lovely thread, the scrapbooking thread, cardmaking, birds, Greaders etc. But I don't like the way the A-Z threads swamp the board sometimes and I avoid those, but some people must like them because they are always there. With the board looking stagnant, I agree that the same threads are often on the first page, but that is because they are the long running threads. I click the arrow on the top of threads so that I get the latest post to come up first and don't have to trawl through them all.
When so many of the regulars went across to chat it did mean that fewer were adding threads to general. And I agree with Daff, some of us were made to feel that we should stay on gen instead of posting on chat. I did ignore that however as I feel all boards should be for all, the same reason I will post on tips if I wish to. I do post more or less equally on gen and chat now though.
