Watching Memphis Belle this week reminded me & oh of a similar film- american aircrew, we think in pacific, coming back to land with missing landing tyre. One of the crew drew a cartoon tyre & got everyone to pray for a tyre for the wheel. they landed with this cartoon tyre & when they all got out the tyre deflated. Are we dreaming this film existed? Does anyone know the title?

Thanks

Andrew

I remember something like it. May have been an 'Outer Limits'/'Twilight Zone' type film.

I think it is one story in a set of Televised "Amazing Stories" directed by Spielberg called "The Mission" about a cartoonist who is trapped in the aircraft or something like that.

Hi,

Persephone is right - it was called The Mission; it wasdirected by
Steven Spielberg and starred Kevin Costner.
(I only know because I had a bit of a thing about Mr Costner...............:)

at the opening of Memphis Belle, there is a plane making an awful landing,
Has anyone got a recorder so that you can see how many times the same shots are shown?
like in one scene the props are bent, and seconds later on the next shot the props are not bent........? get what I mean?and then they get bent again......

A key player in the film Memphis Belle is the B-17----Sally-B

( that's the one with the checkered pattern on one of the engine nacelles)

Karen I can empathise with that,
I would sooner a Pratt and Whitney , than a Whitney and Houston

Thanks for your ideas but I've googled them but not what I'm looking for.
Somebody somewhere will know which film I mean.
Thanks anyway.

I can't remember the film title. But Persephone & Dormouse are right . It was Spielberg.

There was a series of short films in the 1990s.

In this one. On the return journey, one of the crew was stuck in the under belly gun turret & the under carriage on one wing was shot out. Which meant he would be killed on the belly flop crash landing.
One of the guys then drew the cartoon of a wheel & the plane landed safely.

Thanks Steve thought I was going bonkers as I was fairly sure I had seen it but being over 60 the memory could have been playing tricks.

I have since googled it and it is called "The Mission"

Trouble is there is a Spanish film of the same name and you would need to put Spielberg with your google request.
