Hi Uzzi and Jenny

I know Benalmadena well - Ian (my late husband) and I had a place in Benalmadena, but I sold it when he died. I didn't think I could face the place again, but - know what - I'm beginning to miss it. There's a wonderful restaurant on the front called Las Briscas. They do a whole cod cooked in salt - if you're ever over that way, it's well worth a visit..

Anyway, my love of all things Spanish hasn't diminished - two weeks and I'm off to Barcelona (again)

Take care

Hi Uzzi, we love the Belamadena area, although we stay in the Carihuela when we go over. I wish I was there now!! Do they have any fiestas in December do you know?

Jenny I know belamadena Mum has a flat there...

The spanish don't do Halloween it is not part of their heritage and the only reason they do it now is because the expats do.
A shame we are encroaching on their heritage. Next weekend there will be major fiesta's around the area. Cartegena is one of the major ports and does 3 days of festivals. All off it tasteful, but because of the fire works I won't be attending

We holidayed in Spain at halloween last year and the grandchildren dressed up. We walked from Torremolinos to Belamadena in the evening and they made about £10 each! The Spanish children don't dress up until last minute, not like here were it lasts for weeks. We decorated the apartment balconies with balloons and banners etc, the kids loved it. As for fireworks, I hate them; you hear them for weeks on end.

It's a pain in the proverbial isn't it!

Mum lives in Portugal, and just up from her (she lives in the middle of nowhere) there is the 'Festival of the Pines' which apparently entails a lot of beer and.....fireworks!
Her dog is terrified - mind you - this is the same dog who hid under the bed (though god knows how he got under there - he's huge) when the burglars came!! LOL

Maggie we have the Roman fest Next week and then halloween which the spanish don't do but the expats do. Spain don't do 5th Nov but once again some of the expats do !

Spain does do Allhallows eve but they believe that it is the the time to remember their dead. So much more civilised.

We've got the joy of Halloween, followed by November 5th, which of course merges into Christmas and the New year!
2 of my cats are sort of okay , but the 3rd just tries to hide in the cupboard under the stairs and self-mutilates!

As a boring old f*rt, I wish they'd ban them!
The war only lasted 6 years - the noise of fireworks is just as bad - and could go on forever!
