Thanks folks, her daughter informant and present at death . daughter address is ashto -u -lyne died of some form of paralysis. still doesnt explain why she would be in a workhouse if presumably she went to aston with her daughter. |

just realised that her death was registered at the same ashton address as her daughter in 1895 yet she institutionalised in 1891 census kevin |

I have also just seen this thread. A lot of workhouses had a hospital/infirmary attached, it may be that your gggrandmother may have been there in 1891 because she was ill when the census was taken. Just a thought as one of my gggrandmothers died in the workhouse hospital, she was very ill. |

As Caz says, the workhouses were very multi-functional and covered situations which we now separate off into different services. |

This workhouse was extended and became a hospital. The suggestion that she was admitted due to illness makes perfect sense . thank you all for your interest in this topic |
