Just looked at London Gazette site, unfortunately it is subscription
only and I can't afford to join any more sites.
Just been made redundant so I have to behave responsibly.

It's worth looking for him on the London Gazette website which is name searchable. It will mention any promotions in the Army and MAY mention his MBE.

Theres somewhere to write to regards MBE someone will know it I'm sure and it might be worth contacting the war office you'd be surprised what they have there and always willing to help out x

Yes it is one of those old fashion names.
I'm also trying to find out why he got the MBE,
my uncle is a member of this site and he couldn't find out.

He was in the 1/13th London Regiment during the first World War.

Grandfather Captain Sydney Arthur Ball MBE
from Wandsworth London moved to York and we lost all traces of him after 1940s.
Is there any way of finding out what he was doing at that time?
