Have you been tempted with the high gilt scrap prices just now?

No, to be honest. Having had my fingers burnt from promised high prices for gold in the past, and getting next-to-nothing for it, I'm very dubious that much is to be earned from it at all. Also, those paying YOU for the gold, have then got to sell it on at the going price, so of course you're not getting the full whack for it.

Call my cynical...lol

Heard today that someone sent a bag of gold off and only ended up with l think it was only £34 , so l donot think its Joe Public that will get the big bucks.

Perhaps i would consider a jewelers but i would never send anything in the post.

They dont give anything for any gemstones in a ring,just pay for the gold content,,,,,,,!!.

Mummo its not the quantiy but weight value,so 6 rings can weigh only weigh less than 20g, @ 9ct abt £4 @ g,,so dont amount to much but .higher the carat more the return,

Thank goodness I only go into our town once evry six weeks, to have my hair done. Next to the hairdressers is a jewelers, and they have second-hand rings, which draw me like a magnet. It is positively lethal. The thing is, I know the shop manager very well, and if I see something, but haven't got enough on me, because I have only gone out to have my hair done, I just have to pop in and he puts it away in the safe for me, and OH goes up and pays for it.

Kay thats what l meant to say, people see the advert on the t v and think they are going to get a good return for their gold but they won't as like you say its the weight not the amount.

i have numerous amounts of gold from when i was a teen but im saving it all even tho i dont wear it now for the kids wen there older

I have bought and sold gold for some years. I always start with the gold weight value on the day and then make allowances for style, condition and stone content.

Nobody who I have either bought from or sold to has been unhappy. I wouldn't trust those companies further than I could throw them.

I bet loads get ripped off if they have no idea how to assess their gold or weigh as not all gets scrapped.

we had some rings valued recently cost over £500 was offered £42 lololol coz of the weight they never took into account the carot on the diamonds :(


but i have quiet a few souvreigns that will weight a good bit but i could never part with them coz there were gifts on me 18th and 21st lol and one was of me foster brother

Some pawnbrokers charge 800% per annum, not exactly an attractive proposition.

my foster brother used to pawn gold then give his mates the slip, to whoever wanted to pay for it to get it out lol

A jeweller will pay what hes prepared to pay on the day according to scrap pricing on the day !!...usually a third of scrap,,unless its an outstanding item or is sellable then will offer a little more.

Funny how they have appeared now that the economy is going through a bad patch.

Where were they when times were good? Don't remember seeing any of their adverts anywhere.
