Honestly, my arm is in shreds, I have claw holes in my right thigh, and there is a grumpy cat outside somewhere telling all the neighbours how badly he's just been treated.

Yep, its flea and worming day. So he's been force-fed pills, bribed with treats, soaked while eating said treats in front-line, given more treats, and flung himself outside with the hump. LOL

It WAS front-line LOL.

I've tried all sorts, but he's wised up to it, He knows all the tricks now so it's a naked worm tab straight down his throat. How he can growl and swallow at the same time I'll never know. Then his favourite treats, while the spot goes on as he's eating them.

If looks could kill.....

Yeh, Merlin... but you haven't met my Polgara..... the only feline I have ever failed to get a tablet down..... and I have dosed a fair few in my time, lol Not one vet has ever managed it, either, much to my relief. I don't feel alone in my sense of failure, lol I use drops for fleas and worms... I was sooooo relieved when they came out! Pol is almost 18.

I used to wrap my old cat in a towel and give him any pills....not too bad, and saved me from a good scratching LOL

This one has now only got to see the corner of a towel and he's off...

Some twenty years ago, we had a cat called Seraphine, a Persian. She had been found in the fields at the back of our house, by the farmers wife, who looked after her, and cleaned her up, before she asked me if I would have her, me already owning several cats. Son went and fetched her from the farm. The following week, my son was in an horrific car accident and was in hospital for three months, so she had hardly got to know him. But in those first few weeks when we were going to Intensive Care to visit, she was always in the window bottom waiting for us to come back. It was a sort of comfort.
Anyway, as time went on, she marked her place in our household. She would not eat on the communial plate with the other cats, but had to have a china dish, on the worktop, and as soon as she had eaten, she was out the open window.
So did Seraphinas life go on. Sometimes she would come back a bit mucky, and I would try to wash her in the sink. Out came the claws, and the spitting, and the nipping. When her coat came too much to cope with, we would take her to a professional groomer. Within in an hour, she would be as bad again.
After a while, I noted that she was spendfdng alot of time at next-door-but-one. They would feed her, and let her sleep at their house. And this went on for some time. Then one day, the 'lady' of the house, came round to tell me that her husband, had sat up with Seraphina all night as she had died, and could they bury her in their garden. Yes, I said, as she had appeared to spend as much time with them as with us.
Next day I found out that the 'man' of the house, a neer do well, but with a big heart, had sat with her all night, and could not go to work the next day.
He is still somewhat of a rogue, but still with the big heart. OH and I where only reminicing about this a couple of nights ago.
I needed this thread, but can't say why. Maybe another time

When we had our Holly, to give her a pill I had to crush it and mix it in with crab paste. She never caught on!!!

OH dear...he's just come in, glared at me and walked right past me...LOL

Julia, it's lovely that Seraphina came into your lives when you needed her the most, and gave you comfort. Maybe she gave something similar to your neighbour which made him glad to sit up all night with her in her final moments.

What a lovely story.

Now he's being awkward. Let me describe my flat to you.

We have the front door. next to that is a big bay window, where my OH sits at his PC. then further round the corner there is the living room window, which is open, and he can come and go as he pleases....

OH has just watched him walk past the bay on his way to the front window, came in, and walked through the living room, through the kitchen (where the bay window is) to sit in the lobby howling to go out of the door!!

Go figure!
